The House Committee on Human Services (HUS) informational briefing on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., will be broadcast live on Oahu on Channel 53 (NATV) and live to the Neighbor Islands via HITS. Rebroadcast times and dates will be announced when the information becomes available.
Agenda:
The purpose of this informational briefing is to discuss the concerns with basic services under the supervision of Community Ties of America (CTA). The briefing will also cover the renewal process of CTA'S contract with DHS. The discussion will also center on possible improvements and proposals for CTA.
The briefing will identify concerns regarding possible conflicts of interest in the certification of Community Care Foster Family homes as well as concerns regarding case management, the current client referral system (discharge network), proper placement of clients and the difference in pay provided to private case managers and case managers under the supervision of CTA.
The need for regulation and oversight of private case management agencies will also be covered at this briefing.
Moreover, transfer of patients from Community Care Foster Family Homes will be discussed as well as the possible concerns regarding transfer trauma and what safeguards DHS, CTA and the operators of Foster Homes have in place to prevent such trauma to their patients.
